3 Hazards Identification
Irritant
When cement based powders are mixed with water or when they become damp a strong alkaline solution is produced, which can cause serious burns or ulcerations to the eyes or skin. Strong alkaline solutions tend to damage nerve endings in the skin so chemical burns can develop without pain being felt at the time. In addition, cement mortars can cause irritant and allergic dermatitis.
4 First-Aid Measures
If contact with eyes seek medical attention immediately.
| Inhalation: | If irritation occurs remove to fresh air, if nose/airway become inflamed, seek medical advice. |
| Skin: | Wash thoroughly with soap and water, remove contaminated clothing and launder before re-use. If irritation pain or other skin trouble occurs, seek medical advice. |
| Eye Contact: | Irrigate eyes with clean water for at least 15 minutes, obtain medical attention immediately. |
| Ingestion: | Do not induce vomiting, wash out mouth with water and give plenty of water to drink. |
Eye wash station or means of irrigation should be readily available.
5 Fire-Fighting Measures
Extinguishing media:
| Suitable extinguishing media: | Water or Foam extinguishers are suitable |
| Unsuitable extinguishing media: | None Specified |
| Special exposure hazards arising from combustion including gaseous by-products: | Product is not flammable and will not facilitate combustion with other materials. |
| Special protective equipment for fire fighters: | N/A |
6 Accidental Release Measures
| Personal Precautions: | Wearing suitable personal protection (dust masks, gloves and goggles) as in section 8, recover spillage in dry state, if possible avoiding dust formation. |
| Environmental In accordance with local authority, regulations do not allow material into precautions: | watercourses and drains. |
| Methods for : | Try to avoid build up of dust where possible. |
| Cleaning up: | Vacuum removal if available is the most most suitable. If product is hydrated, mechanical aids may be required to reduce manual handling risks. |
| Exposure controls/Personal protection: | Refer to section 8 |
| Disposal: | Should be disposed at a suitable landfill site in accordance with control of Pollution act 1974, Environmental Protection Act 1990 and local authority regulations. |
| Considerations: | Addition of this product to water will give an alkaline solution, which may be toxic to aquatic life. |
7 Handling and Storage
| Handling: | Should use in a well-ventilated area, appropriate personal protection should be used (as per section 8) wash hands after use. |
| Storage: | Store in a dry place in temperature between 5°C - 25°C. Protect from frost. The product should be stored in unopened bags clear of the ground and away from excessive draughts. |
| Specific use(s): | Standard cementitious product should be in conjunction working practices. |
8 Exposure controls/personal protection
Exposure limit values:
Portland Cement OES 8Hr Time Weighted Average (TWA)
10 mg/m3 total inhalable dust
4mg/rn3 respirable dust
Polymer Binder: OES 8Hr Time Weight Average (TWA)
2mg/rn3 total inhalable dust
| Exposure controls: | Suitable gloves should be worn to prevent skin contact; if dust formation is likely, a suitable dust mask should be worn, If splashing is possible, goggles should be worn. |
Occupational exposure controls
| Respiratory protection: | Use dust mask which will resist respirable dust set out in the MSDS as per exposure limits in well-ventilated area. (Always follow dust mask manufacturers instructions and ensure exposure limit is not beyond the tolerance of the mask). If using in low atmosphere or poorly ventilated area consider use of respirator. |
| Hand protection: | Impermeable or rubber based gloves capable of prevention of contact with skin should be worn. Glove must possess enough durability to prevent dermal exposure during the specific application (a risk assessment may be required.)If contact with skin occurs wash immediately with water. See Section 4 |
| Eye protection: | Dust proof goggles should be worn whenever there is risk of powder or water/powder mixture entering the eye. |
| Skin protection: | Avoid all skin contact. Wear full length overalls to protect skin from splashes, remove all contaminated clothing and launder before re- use if contact with skin occurs consult section 4. |
During light applications, face protection is not normally required however; the possibility of splashing does exist during mixing (a risk assessment may be required). Wash skin with water immediately after any contact with this product as per section 4.
Environmental: Do not allow product to enter water courses or drains, dispose of surplus exposure controls: materials and packaging in accordance with local authority regulations.

11 Toxicological information
| Acute toxicity (oral, inhalation or dermal): | N/A |
| Corrosivity/irritation (eye, skin, respiratory tract): | |
| Eye: | Severe eye irritant mild exposure can cause soreness; gross exposures or untreated mild exposure can lead to chemical burning and ulceration of the eye. |
| Respiratory Tract: | Inhalation may cause inflammation of mucus membranes. Harmful by inhalation |
| Sensitisation (skin, respiratory): | |
| Skin: | Powder may cause irritant contact dermatitis, allergic (chromium) dermatitis and/or burns. |
| Repeated-dose toxicity: | Repeated exposure in excess of the OES has been linked with Rhinitis and coughing. Skin exposure has been linked to allergic (chromium) dermatitis and/or burns. Allergic dermitis more commonly arises from contact with cement/water mixture than dry cement. |
| Mutagenicity: | N/A |

| Mobility: | N/A |
| Persistence & degradability: | N/A |
| Blo-accumalative potential: | N/A |
| Other adverse affects: | The addition of cements to water will, however, cause the pH to rise and may therefore be toxic to aquatic life in some circumstances. |
