Thermal energy moves from a higher temperature to a lower one, the bigger the difference the faster the transfer.

Thermal Conductivity

Measure of the rate at which material will pass heat energy, expressed in units of watts per square metre per degree Celsius of temperature difference (W/mK).

Resistance

Each type of material has it's own particular rate of thermal conductivity affecting the speed of thermal transfer (K-Value)

U Value

Measure of how much heat energy will pass through a square metre of structure when air temperatures on either side differ by one degree Celsius. The fabric of any building will typically consists of a number of components each with their characteristic resistance value, the U-Value is a combination of all these values. U-Values are expressed in units of watts per square metre per degree of temperature difference (W/m2K)
