FLEXIBLE ADHESIVE AND GrOUT ADDITIVE

Description

Flexible Additive is a polymer additive for use with both cement-based adhesives and grouts. this flexible adhesive is suitable for use in interior and exterior locations in both dry and wet service.

Uses for Flexible Additive

The addition of Flexible Additive to cement-based adhesives and grouts greatly improves their physical properties and characteristics.

• Provides greater adhesion of the grout to tile edges e.g. glass mosaics and fully vitrified tiles.
• Provides greater abrasion resistance of the grout. Particularly important in heavily trafficked areas such as shopping malls.
• Increases the flexural strength and flexibility of the grouts enabling them to be used where limited movement/vibration is anticipated e.g. heated screeds and timber floors.
• Provides increased tensile and shear adhesion strength to the adhesives, essential for fixing fully vitrified tiles and glass mosaics and for fixing ceramic and natural stone tiles, slabs and mosaics to dense impervious backgrounds/bases including glazed ceramic tiles and power floated concrete.
• Increases the flexural strength and flexibility of the adhesives enabling them to be used where limited movement/vibration is anticipated e.g. heated screeds and timber floors overlaid with a minimum 15mm thick WBP or Marine grade plywood screw fixed at maximum 300mm centres.
• Reduces the water permeability of the grout and adhesives, providing greater protection to water sensitive backgrounds and minimising the risk of efflorescence.

Installation Procedure

Grouts.

• For most applications dilute 1 part Flexible Additive with 2 parts water. Where greater flexural strength is required i.e. tiling to timber floors, dilute with an equal volume of water. Use the Flexible Additive: water to replace the gauging water when preparing the grout for use.
• FLOOR & WALL TILE GROUT modified with Flexible Additive should be applied as directed in the FLOOR & WALL TILE GROUT product data sheet. The working time of the polymer modified grout may be reduced especially in higher temperatures. The colour of the set grout may appear slightly darker than when unmodified. It must be ensured that the same mix proportions are used throughout an installation to ensure uniform colour.
• Due to increased adhesive properties of grouts modified with Flexible Additive, it must be ensured that tile surfaces are cleaned before the grout dries.

Adhesives.

• Dilute with an equal volume of water and thoroughly mix. Use this mix to replace the gauging water when preparing the adhesive for use.
• cement-based adhesives should be applied as directed in the appropriate product data sheet. In higher temperatures the open time of the adhesive may be slightly less than that of the unmodified material. The setting time of the adhesive will be slightly increased.

N.B. do no use below 5°C.

Sizes

Flexible Additive is supplied in 2.5 Litre containers .

Coverage

Approximately 0.8 -1.2 litres of Flexible Additive per 10kg of grout.

Approximately 2.5 litres of Flexible Additive per 20kg of cement-based adhesive.

Precautions

Health & Safety Warning: Contains Portland Cement. Contact with wet cement may cause irritation, dermatitis or burns. Risk of serious damage to eyes. Wear suitable protective clothing, gloves and eye-face protection. After contact with skin, wash immediately with plenty of clean water.
