Carbonwarm® - The Profession's Choice For Wood & Laminate Floors

Electric Underfloor Heating Film For Wood And Laminate FlooringCarbon Film Heating

Carbonwarm® underfloor heating film is specifically designed for use under laminate floors, engineered board and solid wood flooring. Carbon film heating gives best results where the maximum thickness of laminate/wood flooring is not greater than 18mm (or thickness equivalent to a maximum thermal resistance of 0.15m²K/W).

The principle of Carbonwarm® underfloor heating film is based on a continuous resistive sheet providing heat evenly over the black surface, heating areas. Carbonwarm® consists of a specially formulated, semi-conductive medium, coated onto polyester film. Power is fed to this resistive coating by way of copper electrodes that are fixed to the longitudinal edges of the heating areas. This structure is insulated by a lamination of polyester based films that totally cover the element and is wider than the conductive heating area: the resulting heating film has an overall thickness of less than 0.5mm.

Low temperature, Carbonwarm® floor heating elements, produce a gentle radiant heat that evenly warms the entire room. Once the surfaces have been warmed, the heat is reflected, resulting in comfortable, natural warmth with minimum floor to ceiling temperature variation.

Bringing Out The Luxury Of A Wood Floor

Carbonwarm® provides the luxury of electric underfloor heating to living rooms, bedrooms, hallways, loft conversions and conservatories or almost anywhere a laminate, engineered wood or real timber floor is being laid.

How Effective Is Carbonwarm® Heating Under Laminate and Wood Flooring?

Carbonwarm® is a highly effective, direct acting radiant heating system. It can be used to substitute traditional convector radiators by providing primary heating or just be used to warm a cool floor & provide background heat.

Maintenance Free

Carbonwarm® is reliable, safe and manufactured to last. Being electric, with no moving parts, it is completely maintenance free.

Simple Control

Carbonwarm® is controlled by a simple to operate digital thermostat, providing the user with maximum flexibility and control to suit individual lifestyle choices. Air and floor temperature sensors regulate heat output to maximise comfort. The unit can offer full 24-hour control; 7 days a week, with simple manual override functions.

Heating Elements

Carbonwarm® heating elements are rated at 130W/m2, supplied in 2 different widths: 300mm and 1000mm, with standard lengths between 2 metres and 6 metres, available in 1 metre increments. Each heating element is supplied with standard 5m long connection leads.

Easy To LayCarbon Film Heating

Carbon Film under floor heating systems are designed for simple DIY installation. For more information on Carbon Film heating click on the Carbonwarm® FAQs page.

Select the roll width and nearest lengths to provide maximum floor coverage. Installation is completely dry and is a simple unrolling process.

Quick Installation

Carbonwarm® comes pre-wired with 5m length cold tails. A simple 2-wire electrical mains connection is required to provide safe heating comfort.

Carbonwarm® under floor heating elements are very simple to install by following the comprehensive installation instructions included with each element kit.

Carbonwarm® is not suitable for installations in wet areas.

Freedom Of Installation

Carbonwarm® elements are ultra-thin (less than 0.5mm) and have a minimum effect on finished floor levels: an important consideration when laying floating floors.

Carbonwarm® heating film can be laid on concrete or timber sub-floors when used in conjunction with a good quality thermal insulation.

Floor Insulation

For improved performance in heating times and running costs, it is strongly recommended to install a layer of good quality insulation. This will minimise heat losses and ensure quicker heat-up times for the laminate/wood flooring.

Fastwarm®-Lite has been specifically designed for wood and laminate flooring underfloor heating. Fastwarm®-Lite has a high thermal rating with exceptional footfall and impact insulation qualities.

Vapour Barrier

Carbonwarm® elements must be covered with the Carbonwarm® polyester vapour barrier to provide optimum moisture and additional mechanical protection.

Electrical Requirements

The final electrical connections should be made by a qualified electrician in accordance with the current wiring regulations.

All installations require a 30mA RCD (residual current device) for safe operation.Carbonwarm 10 year guarantee

All elements require connection to the thermostat via a standard junction box.

Safety

Carbonwarm® is approved to the relevant International standard approval EN60335-2-96.

Guarantee

Carbonwarm® comes with a 10 year guarantee against manufacturing defects.

Floor Construction

Before laying the Carbonwarm® heating elements on either a suspended timber floor or concrete sub-floor, it is necessary to install a layer of good quality insulation; this will minimise heat losses and ensure quicker heat-up times for the laminate/wood flooring.

A high quality insulation layer should also have good acoustic qualities to act as a sound deadening barrier - usually required for wood and laminate floors to reduce footfall noise.

The insulation should be of the type that will protect against moisture and also act as a leveller for minor, sub-floor, surface imperfections.

Running Costs

The running costs associated with Carbonwarm® can be related directly to the floor heat-up times. A well-insulated sub-floor will significantly reduce heat losses, improve heat-up times & reduce running costs. Even on insulated floors (concrete or wood) a minimum of 5mm of Fastwarm®-Lite thermal insulation is highly recommended and should be used in conjunction with Carbonwarm® to improve the performance of the underfloor heating.

Example:
A 12m² floor, in a room fitted with a minimum 5mm of Fastwarm®-Lite thermal insulation on top of an insulated concrete sub-floor, would cost approximately 7p* per square metre, per day, to run. This is based on the heating system being on twice a day for a 2hr and 5hr period respectively. This assumes a 50% duty cycle once the floor has reached temperature and assumes a cost of 8.0p per Kwh.

*Cost estimate given is an approximation and is given for illustration purposes only. Running costs will vary depending on temperature settings, length of time heating system is set to run and overall heat losses (U Value) in individual rooms.
