3 Hazards Identification

Odour: No information available
Appearance: No information available
Eye contact: Causes irritation, possible redness of affected areas.
Skin contact: Prolonged exposure may cause abrasive irritation of the skin.
Inhalation: Prolonged exposure to the respirable fraction of the silica contained in this product may cause silicosis.
Ingestion: Low single dose oral toxicity, may cause gastro-intestinal disturbances.


4 First-Aid Measures

Skin: Wash affected areas thoroughly with soap and water. If irritation persists seek medical advice.
Eye Contact: Immediately wash out eyes with clean water for at least 15 minutes. Irrigate eyes thoroughly whilst lifting eyelids. Seek medical attention if irritation persists.
Ingestion: Do not induce vomiting. Rinse mouth with water (do not swallow). Give 200-300mIs (half pint) of water to drink. Seek medical attention.
Inhalation: Remove patient to the fresh air. If breathing is difficult, oxygen should be given by a trained person. Seek medical attention if ill effects occur.

Eye wash station or means of irrigation should be readily available.

5 Fire-Fighting Measures
Non-combustible solid. Not flammable. In case of fire use extinguishing media appropriate to surrounding conditions.. In case of fire, do not breathe fumes.

6 Accidental Release Measures

Clean-up actions: Mix with wet sand. Do not dry sweep. Sweep or shovel-up spillages and remove to a safe place. Place in an appropriate container. Do not empty into drains (S29).
Special precautions: Avoid the raising of dust.

7 Handling and Storage

Handling: Due regard should be paid to the Manual Handling Operations regulations.. Do not allow dust to accumulate on surfaces and equipment. When using do not eat, drink or smoke (S20121). Avoid contact with skin and eyes (S24/25). Do not breathe dust (S22).
Storage: Store in a dry place in temperature between 5°C - 25°C. Protect from frost. The product should be stored in unopened bags clear of the ground and away from
excessive draughts.

8 Exposure controls/personal protection

Engineering controls: Engineering controls should be provided which maintain airborne concentrations below the relevant guidelines.
Precautionary measures: Ensure adequate ventilation.


Occupational exposure controls

Personal protection: Wear goggles giving complete eye protection. Wear approved respirator if exposure likely to exceed MEL/OES. Wear PVC gloves.

Exposure limit values:

Silica sand: MEL/LTEL silica, respirable crystalline 0.3mg/rn3. A chemical hazard alert notice (CHAN No 35) has been issued for this substance recommending that exposure to this substance be reduced to 0.1mg/rn3 (8 hour TWA) or below.
Portland cement: Total inhalable dust 10mg/rn3. Respirable dust 4mg/rn3. (8 Hr LTEL).
