UNIVERSAL BONDING AGENT SBR

Description

universal bonding agent is a water based dispersion of a styrene-butadiene copolymer, which, due to its versatility, finds applications in industrial, commercial and domestic situations and is the ideal floor surface preparation.

Uses

universal bonding agent can be used for floor surface preparation, as a primer, sealer and dustproofer. It is also used as an admixture to improve the physical and mechanical strength including improved adhesion to substrates, increased flexibility, water and frost resistance of cement: sand mortars e.g. screeds and renders.

• Admixture for Sand/Cement Mortars: universal bonding agent SBR should be added to cement: sand screeds and renders at the ratio of 10 litres per every 50 kg of cement used. For wear resistant floor toppings (10 to 15mm thickness) add 10 litres of universal bonding agent SBR: 1 part by weight of Ordinary Portland Cement: 1.75 parts grade M sand to BS 882; 1992 : 1.75 parts 3mm nominal size washed aggregate. Lay onto a wet slurry-bonding coat (described below) and smooth out.

For Ordinary Portland Cement:sand screeds cure under polythene for at least 7 days before air drying for a minimum of at 14 days. Allowing at least 3-4 days before foot trafficking.

• Slurry-bonding Coat: A slurry of 1 part universal bonding agent to 2 parts cement by weight improves the adhesion of cement:sand mortars to a wide range of backgrounds and bases including concrete, existing screeds etc.
• Priming/Sealing: universal bonding agent SBR can be applied undiluted to existing vinyl floor tiles, wooden floors and sealing the reverse face and edges of sheets and boards in order to minimise the risk of distortion due to atmospheric moisture changes.
• Dustproofing: Thoroughly dry brush the concrete or screed floor before applying a diluted sealing coat of 4 parts water to 1 part universal bonding agent SBR. Dusty or over-trowelled Gypsum Finish Coat Plaster should be thoroughly dry brushed with a stiff bristled brush before sealing.

Sizes

universal bonding agent SBR is available in 1litre and 5 litre plastic containers.

Coverage

As an admix: 10 litres/50 kg cement

As a primer: Approximately 12m 2 /litre, un-diluted

Storage

Store universal bonding agent in a cool, dry place.

Shelf life of a minimum of one year in well sealed containers.

Ideal storage temperature 5-20 o C.

Precautions in Use

Health & Safety Warning : Keep universal bonding agent out of reach of children. In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of clean water and seek medical advice. After contact with skin, wash immediately with plenty of clean water. Wear suitable protective clothing, gloves and eye/face protection.
